01. Cut: the way it catches the light
Cut describes how a diamond’s facets interact with light. It is different from shape: round, oval, pear and emerald describe the outline. Compare diamonds in different lighting and choose a balance of brilliance and character that appeals to you.
02. Color: subtle differences
Many white diamonds are graded from D to Z, from colorless to a more noticeable tint. The appearance also depends on your chosen metal and setting. View stones alongside one another to understand which combination you prefer.
03. Clarity: a diamond’s individuality
Clarity refers to internal inclusions and surface features. Some require magnification to see. Ask to view the stone closely and review any grading report supplied with the individual diamond.
04. Carat: weight, not just size
A carat is a measure of weight: one carat equals 0.2 grams. Two diamonds of the same weight can look different in size because of their shape and proportions. Consider how the complete ring looks and feels on your hand.
